At the beginning of each month, Art Forecast compiles recent professional changes in the art world, including announcements of new artist representation, gallery openings and closings, and general career moves and changes.
This month, I noticed a trend—there are a lot more galleries and museums opening than closing. It’s not quantitative, but I’ll take that as a good sign for an art world currently fretting about the market.

Gallery Representation
Hauser and Wirth will represent Jeffrey Gibson in collaboration with Sikkema Jenkins.
Bradley Ertaskiran announced the representation of painter Margaux Williamson.

Gallery Openings & Closings
The Rubin Museum of Art in New York City has pivoted to a “global model,” closing its physical location after 20 years.
The closure of the Elizabeth Street Garden remains in flux.
The garden's eviction was originally slated for October 17, outraging many in the art community. The Supreme Court paused the eviction until October 30, but I saw the garden commenting on Instagram that they were still open and “Waiting to see how it moves through court. But we’re ready.”
When the garden was created in 1991, it was an extension of a nearby art gallery. Interview Magazine spoke with Joseph Reiver, who is currently fighting the eviction, about the eviction.
The Hort Family Museum broke ground in Chatham, New York.
Rhona Hoffman Gallery is winding down some of its operations, specifically its physical location in Chicago. The gallery will still participate in Art Basel Miami Beach and EXPO Chicago 2025.
ICA Miami acquired a second location, formerly the home of the de la cruz collection. This move will double their space.
A new gallery opened in Guelph, Ontario: Stadium Projects.
Sotheby’s has expanded its footprint in Paris, with a new Paris Headquarters in the Matignon Saint-Honoré district, just down the street from its previous location.
Marian Goodman opened a new five-story (!) flagship location in Tribeca.
Art collector and former hedge fund manager Howard Rachofsky is partnering with collector Thomas Hartland-Mackie to transform an 18,000-square-foot exhibition space into a non-profit arts foundation. The Warehouse is set to debut in Dallas in February.
Marc Straus Gallery will open a new space in Tribeca on November 14 at 57 Walker Street.

Darren Walker has been elected president of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.—he was previously president of the Ford Foundation.
Christine Macel steps down as director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
