Setting up a Google Alert with your name is probably the easiest piece of advice I can give to an artist (or anyone!).

It takes less than five minutes and ensures you get notified anytime you’re mentioned on the world wide web. If someone reviews your exhibition in a newspaper, includes your art in a round-up on Artsy, or mentions your work in a newsletter, you’ll get an email letting you know. This is valuable information that allows you to share your press or reach out and thank the writer. You can then add the press mention to your CV.

It would also be helpful in situations where your work is incorrectly listed, alerting you to the mistake and allowing you to reach out and get any misinformation corrected.

I’m also generally nosey, so I like to keep tabs on what people are saying about me online ;)

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to set up a Google Alert, including how to create advanced alerts using Boolean Logic and ideas for general alerts to set so you don’t miss out on any future opportunities.
