Lately, Iβve had artists tell me that people are trying to sell them manifestation and visualization techniques as a viable career strategy. Iβm not here to denounce the power of a vision board, but if thatβs the only thing you're relying on in your art career, things are going to get tricky.
Videos with titles like βCreate Art & Never Work A Job Again ($5k/m Roadmap)β, βExactly how to go from $0-10k/month as a creativeβ, and βHow I made $560,039 Selling Art With These Sites!β promise an easy one-size-fits-all approach to success in the arts. Like so many other industries, weβre sold success stories bundled into get-quick schemes advertised by so-called artists youβve never heard of.
These claims, courses, and TikToks reveal a reality of being an artist (or simply being human): Most people are in one place in their life, and would like to evolve towards another. Instead of going down the route of dropshipping, AI, or becoming a full-time salesperson for your art, might I suggest moving towards a slower, less sexy, and more sustainable plan of action?
