A great question; there is a surprising absence -- how do art-seekers find new galleries and artists. Some years ago BlogTO assigned reviewers to tour Toronto galleries and write about the spaces themselves, not so much reviewing any particular show. A new article has popped up by Macy Hatcher: https://www.blogto.com/gallery/cooper-cole-dupont-toronto/
Earlier this year, I was wondering the same thing, but with Chicago art critics. I went to a few of Chicago's publications that write about art and looked up all the authors. I came up with a list of authors on Bluesky and their respective website (if the critic has a website). Here's a link to the Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13POxvYGP2vOZ0q4jwcGgrhJTMDv9wYzCtlQhEb6OMGc/edit?usp=sharing
There are no art critics just reviewers.
Do you think people are afraid to publish real criticism?
